Victorian Mysteries: The Moonstone Out Today on the App Store
LOS ANGELES (June 23, 2011) — Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in the Americas, announced today the worldwide simultaneous launch of Victorian Mysteries®: The Moonstone for iPhone®, iPod® touch and iPad®.
Part of the Victorian Mysteries series of games from developer Freeze Tag Inc., The Moonstone is adapted from Wilkie Collins’s 19th century novel of the same name — widely considered as the first detective novel ever written in the English language.
Players, playing the role of Detective Cuff, are drawn into a world of suspense, suspicion and deception as they are tasked with solving the mystery of the missing Moonstone. The investigation focuses on the disappearance of a large Indian diamond given to a young Englishwoman for her eighteenth birthday. When the gem goes missing, suspicion falls on all parties involved.
“The Victorian Mysteries series of games has been a smash hit with PC and Mac gamers,” said Freeze Tag CEO Craig Holland, “so we’re excited to be working with an international publisher like Square Enix on the global launch to bring this classic detective tale to a mobile audience.”

The game’s future setting — dealing with the moral and ethical perils of artificial body augmentation is fertile creative ground for artistic talent.
The New York City exhibition will run for two weeks, and open with a launch that will play host to the who’s/who of the NYC art world. The following artists have been commissioned to create one-of-a-kind pieces that explore the game’s key storyline: the state of humanity, which in the DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION world is currently at its turning point due to cybernetic augmentation. Proceeds from the sale of the artwork will be put towards supporting further education in the arts.

“Creating the right visual look and feel for DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION was of critical importance to help set the tone of the incredibly rich storyline and enhance the game’s universe,” said Jonathan Jacques–Belletête, art director of DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION, Eidos–Montreal. “The art direction in the game is extremely distinctive, with its main elements being a polished blend of cyberpunk flavor and aesthetics from the Renaissance, and super slick contemporary designs such as modern architecture and geometrical art installations. It’s exciting to bring more focus to videogame inspired art and it will be really interesting to see how the theme of transhumanism in DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION is interpreted by the unique group of artists participating in this project.”
“With support from Square Enix, Juxtapoz and the art community, we’ve selected a group of artists from all disciplines who will explore both pro and anti–augmentation in their works, based on the captivating storyline from the game,” said Estevan Oriol, co–founder and creative director of SA Studios Global. “This show will seamlessly combine several art forms and styles through the lens of the futuristic DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION world.”
Each artist will create one poster style image, inspired by either the pro–augmentation or anti–augmentation factions as seen in DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION. Patrick Martinez, art director for SA Studios, will lend his talents to transforming the overall gallery space to create an experience that aptly depicts what’s in the game. Many of the artists participating in the show are expected to attend the exhibition’s opening.

Roxane and I were talking the other day, and we felt it would be nice to not only give you guys updates on Kingdom Hearts news, but Square Enix related news as well! So let us know what you think about this, since KH news is still rather.. well, rather slow. To my knowledge, Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance was scheduled to make an appearance at this years Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), but still has yet to appear. Hopefully we’ll see something on it within the next few days.
On a brighter note, remember that update I gave you months ago about the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII-2? Well, I’ll admit, I thought it was being rushed and wouldn’t be a good title. But just earlier, the newest, and english language trailer, was released along with E3, and I must say I was blown away. So far, playable characters will be the legendary Lightning, new comer Noel, and the lovable little sister Serah. Also joining the party, for the first time in the Final Fantasy XIII series, are certain monsters you’ll be able to have in your party for short periods of time. Can Serah and Noel find Lightning and save Pulse before it’s too late? Stay tuned! Below, is the trailer.
