Kingdom Hearts 2 / II / KH2
Kingdom Hearts 2 (KH2) is the sequel to the hugely successful Squaresoft / Disney collaboration Kingdom Hearts which was released in 2002 on the PlayStation 2.
KH2 was released in 2005 in Japan, and 2006 in the rest of the world. KH2 was, like it’s predecessor, released on the PlayStation 2 console; however Square Co had by this time incorporated Enix into their portfolio, meaning that Kingdom Hearts II was a joint effort between Square-Enix and Disney.
Background Information
As in Kingdom Hearts, Sora is the main character and the story continues as he moves his way through the various worlds, including those derived from Disney stories. Sora proceeds through the KH2 storyline by travelling from Twilight Town, to Agrabah; from Hollow Bastion to ‘The World That Never Was’ wielding his Keyblade all the way.
On his journey, Sora meets, and is accompanied by a plethora of different characters including Disney’s Goofy and Donald, Final Fantasies Cloud and Aerith, and original cast members such as Riku and Kairi.
Storyline
(Warning: this article contains major spoilers!)
The story begins with Sora, Donald and Goofy waking up from a year-long sleep which was induced to recover their forgotten memories lost in their prior adventure. While Sora and friends slept, Sora’s “Nobody”, Roxas, has been placed in an almost parallel universe created by DiZ (also known as Ansem the Wise), in order to have Roxas merge with Sora after he awakens. This was done so that DiZ could get revenge on Organization XIII.
After waking up, Sora, Donald and Goofy are sent off by King Mickey and Yen Sid to find Riku, and to prevent Organization XIII from proceeding with their plans to abuse their control of the Nobodies. As well as this, the wicked dark fairy Maleficent is resurrected, and with the help of Pete endeavors to gain supreme power.
While Sora and friends are traversing their way throughout the kingdom, Kairi was kidnapped by Organization XIII. At this point in the story King Mickey makes Sora aware of the relation between Ansem, Xehanort and Xemnas. It is also revealed that plan of Organization XIII is to obtain the power of Kingdom Hearts.
As Sora, Donald and Goofy travel to Organization XIII’s headquarters, in the World That Never Was, they meet up with Kairi and Riku once more, who reveal the true relationship between Sora and Roxas.
King Mickey proceeds to meet with DiZ, who admits that he is Ansem the Wise, but while attempting to reduce the power of Kingdom Hearts by using a machine, the machine blows up and kills Ansem the Wise.
The game then ends with a mighty battle with shape-shifting Xemnas, whose defeat means that Sora, Kairi, Riku and company are able to return home to Destiny Islands.
And as the game ends, we see Sora, Riku and Kairi reading a letter from King Mickey. And so onto Kingdom Hearts III?

Kingdom hearts chain of memories is gay. dont buy it only kingdom hearts 1 and 2 are awsome. and u dont need to play it to understand the storyline.

Personally I liked KH1 better thab KH2. The first one had a different company (Disney interactive i believe) and the second had i think Buena Vista or somethin. this probably brought new people who contributed to gameplay. In the first one the fighting was a bit more articulate. In the second one the whole triangle button moves totally changed what KH was about. KH was about having a Squaresoft game without the turn based combat. In the second i think the new company just turned the new combat system into the button mashing. also i think that people like yuffie leon and wats her nme had new voices and others too. Leon sid and yuffie were really important to the plot and it was just weird hearing their different almost crappy voices…no offense… on the important characters. I mean they had david boreanz or watever as leon hes a pretty famous guy and changing semi main characters is stupid. One other thing i didnt like was making the worlds a bit shorter than KH1. In KH1 even though the levels seemes harder and longer you had made a big accomplishment when you would lock a keyhole. Now other than the first and last world visit it was only like an hour. I personally didnt have a sense of big accomplishment at the end of a world and that was what made me love the game. But even though there was some changes in the gameplay the one reason why i love this game is because of the story I just think it is an amazing plot and probably the best experience from a video game ive ever had THANKS!!!

Well Just reading the last page 1st i dont think that u need chain of memories before KH2. For the first couple scenes u may be a bit confused, but barely. Also i really dont think there were any plot holes if ur talking about missing info or stuff that wont be tied up, if so im sure the third one will handle that. Also What kind of idiot would get rid of the disney aspect. even though im older i would rather have disney characters than something else. The combination between Disney and final fantasy is amazing. And last sephiroth just takes aggresiveness. Be consistent with attacks and retaliations with him. Be prepared with as many elixirs as possible and never let him count down jumping or flying to him… OK talk later

i am a complete fan of Riku Sora Cloud and everybody else. but still Zexion is the best and that was an akward last post but oh god i love him. i never say that normally but still, that was my first ever post. i’ve beaten the game KH2 4 times so far and i had it since christmas! How do you beat Sephiroth, thats the only thing i don’t know about this game?????

I think that both of them were great, and that people are just so picky and choosy. Most people are saying that they hope they change the theme so it wont be disney anymore I hope it stays the same. I mean it will still be an awesome game and everyhting I just think that it being more realistic makes it less fun. I love the cartoons. I fell in love with the game that way I hope it stays that way.

hi, i was a huge fan of KH1 and i havent been able to get my hands on a copy of chain of memories, and i felt that KH2 wouldnt make sense without playing chain of memories 1st, would u say this is true?
