Let’s think back.
This is nothing new, but there’s been no news for a while now; so I compiled this together from the Tokyo Game Show to use on the forum. I’m sure you know all of this already. I’ll edit this tomorrow as there’s still a lot more that should be added.
KINGDOM HEARTS NEWS AT THE TOKYO GAME SHOW~
The past month has been abundant with Kingdom Hearts news, what with the highly anticipated Tokyo Game Show 2007 taking place. There were quite a lot of interesting announcements given regarding the future of Kingdom Hearts. Here are the main stories which have got people talking:
NOT ONE GAME… BUT THREE~
Prior to the Tokyo Game Show this year, there were a lot of Kingdom Hearts fans hopeful that Square-Enix would announce a continuation of the popular series - a Kingdom Hearts 3 for the next-gen - but they had bigger plans for us.
Tetsuya Nomura had earlier given an interview stating that Kingdom Hearts fans should expect to see a side-story on the DS, PSP or mobile phones, giving the option of three characters and left us to guess what would happen and debate about which would be the better game to play – well, we needn’t have bothered because Nomura planned on releasing all three! I don’t think many people anticipated him meaning all three, but it was a nice – if not surprising – announcement. Square-Enix showcased off three trailers of these games, unfortunately in a private screening. All we had to go by were written up descriptions of the trailers, and here they are along with all of the other important information we have already.
BIRTH BY SLEEP~
WHAT DO WE ALREADY KNOW?
☆ The unseen trailer~
Here is a description of the Birth by Sleep trailer:
Scenes of the ending of Kingdom Hearts 1 flash by on the screen, and two phrases are seen clearly onscreen. One reads “Deep Past” and the other “Shut-Eyes gives birth to the concealed fate.”
We are then confronted by a young boy who looks like Roxas conversing with another young boy with black hair. Their surroundings seem to resemble Hallow Bastion (Radiant Garden). The name “Ven” is thrown outward, referring to the boy who looks like Roxas.
The scene change various times before stopping at an iamge of the Old Man from the KH2FM+ secret ending. He is called “Master Xehanort” by Terra. Soon after, Terra summons his keyblade and the screen changes.
Various worlds are shown, and one of which is familiar to us all. “Olympus Colliseum” is making another comeback, followed by a brand new world, that of which resembles Sleeping Beauty.
The video then changes back to Terra battling against a dark figure, whom you can tell is male. This is the same man from the Secret Ending of KH2FM+, the one who the Old Man creates. Terra is able to forceably get the man’s helmet off, but his face is concealed.
King Mickey is shown summoning kis keyblade, and then the scene changes very quickly to Terra on a beach. He seems to be watching two boys play in the ocean. After he rests his weapon into the ground, the two boys he was watching are clearer and they look like Sora and Riku. Soon after, Terra says “Please don’t depend on me, just erase me… friend.”
The phrase “Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep” arises.

Taking place in the past, this game will focus on the scenes we have already witnessed from the secret endings found in Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+. Three apprentices go in search of their missing master.

☆ The characters~
Terra - Already seen previously in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix as a boss, he is now one of the three playable characters you can control in a choice of three different scenarios.
Master Xehanort - A mysterious old Keyblade Master, also resembles Xehanort’s Heartless a lot, but I wonder if this means anything?
Aqua - Shares a connection with Ven, although we do not know what kind of relationship they have. So far, her role in this game is undefined, as she hasn’t been mentioned a lot.
Ven - His true identity will be explored in Birth by Sleep.

So far, there have been a few new worlds confirmed - and some not-so-new. Here is the full list so far:

This game is set before the events of Kingdom Hearts 1.

☆ The gameplay~
An improved version of the deck system used in CoM will be used in Birth by Sleep. However, instead of cards, the user will choose from commands, which will be implemented into their menu.

358/2 Days~
WHAT DO WE ALREADY KNOW?
☆ The unseen trailer~
Here is a description of the 358/2 Days Trailer:
We are introduced with the scene where Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories had came to an end, and are then confronted with the phrase “The other side attached to Sora still sleeps”, along with “The mind comes back whenever they touch.”
The video then focuses upon Roxas and Axel, sitting atop the clock tower in Twilight Town. This seems to be the same scene from Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix+. Soon after, the video shows Roxas being invited into Organization XIII. He is being greeted by all, and introduces himself, and they do the same to him. Then the scene fades into Roxas actually joining the Organization.
Following this is a short clip of Mickey talking about Axel, and Saix near Roxas. Roxas is shown pulling out both of his keyblades, and it moves into gameplay. The gameplay confirms indifenatley that you may play with Roxas, Axel, Saix and Xigbar.
Xemnas then mentions something very interesting. He explains that a 14th member has joined their Organization, and that this member is female. This scene is quickly followed by the title of the game: “Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days” and a whsipering Roxas saying “I will disappear from this world in 151 days”

Every Organisation 13 character WILL be playable, according to Tetsuya Nomura. We also know that a 14th member will be introduced - a female member - but nothing is known about her yet, except that she ISN’T Naminé and that she wasn’t present in Kingdom Hearts 2.

Not many worlds have been confirmed so far, but Wonderland is making a return.

This game takes place from Roxas’ birth, (in KH1), his entrance and time in the Organisation, into the events of CoM, and when he leaves to find more about himself and his TRUE self, and then eventually, when he gets taken to the digitised Twilight Town.

☆ The gameplay~
There will be single and multiplayer options in this game, and Tetsuya Nomura has revealed that there is a bonus to using both modes:
“The character’s growth is shared between the two modes,”
Also during multiplayer mode, the bottom screen of the DS can be used as a chat system, if you wish. Players will be able to communicate with each other as they play the game; by drawing pictures on the screen! Although not official yet, Nomura and his team are planning to add some further plans to this feature.

CODED~

Here is a description of the Coded trailer:
When the video begins, we are introduced with a series of images, followed by the words “Kingdom Hearts: New Concepts and Game Titles.” Right after this, the ending to Kingdom Hearts 2 plays, followed by the phrases “The secret ending has been dealt with, and the worlds extend once again” and “flow”.
The screen fades back in to Jiminy Cricket and the phrase “Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories”. He is peering into his journal, noticing a phrase he cannot remember writing. It reads “You need to return, to heal the wounds”. This phrase seems to alert Jiminy in some way, as he runs off to report the finding to King Mickey. The king is startled by the discovery, but only replies with “Only he is the one who can solve it.”
We fade in and out to Sora standing on the beach at Destiny Islands. He is wearing his Kingdom Hearts 1 style clothing, but he is only shown as computer data being transmitted.
When the image of Sora dissapears, a battle scene commences. As Sora is moving blocks around to finish a puzzle game, heartless are attacking from all angles. The gameplay mechanics seem very odd. After the puzzle is finished, a command called “Debugging” appears on the screen. After being activated, Sora moves extremely quickly and then vanishes.
The last scene includes Sora and Mickey in Traverse Town. Mickey says to no one in particular “I was here on that day.” and “Let’s speak truly”.
We are then presented with the name of the game: Kingdom Hearts: Coded.

After finding an entry in his journal that he didn’t write, “we must return to free them from their torment,” Jiminy confronts King Mickey about it and so he digitizes the contents (along with himself and Sora), and they go and investigate.

☆ The gameplay~
Half puzzle game, half action/RPG. There will also be something called ‘Debugging mode’ in Coded, and basically this means that Sora will confront bugs (the type found in your computer, not insects) when he approaches normal enemies. Sora will need to clear the bugs (that look like blocks) in order to fight. We have already seen a screenshot of this. The bugs also have other purposes too. They can be used to help Sora get higher up, and they can be used in puzzle games.

We should expect to see the trailers at this year’s Jump Festa - December 22nd-23rd - but nothing is confirmed yet. Let’s hope, anyway.

Dude, It has already been confirmed that KH3 will be on the ps3. Nomura wanted to make the new series multi console. so he developed a game for the 3 major types of handhelds that lots of people have. This is possibly a good marketing idea for the handhelds themselves. because most of the people that already have played the first 2 are primarily console gamers and will need to buy the systems. Then on teh other side for the people that primarily play handheld games this will get the fans of these 3 new games to get the console when kh3 comes out for the ps3. also if those people that have handhelds don’t have the ps2 that couls be a reason for them to get one to get the original story to understand the game they play. If you look at it from a marketig standpoint there is a good chance that this could be the best way to get the most players as huge fans into the kh collection.

I have a theory of the conections:
Coded: If you remember the original secret movie (shows sora, riku and kairi and a letter from mickey) this may be what happens when the kingdom hearts coded ends (the letter may tell something that the king discovered in the game)
Birth by Sleep: It will explain about Xehanort,s memories and why he had a keyblade with sepcial powers (Sora: “a keyblade that can free a heart”: KH1). It will also explain the connection between roxas and ven
358/2 days: It will explain about roxas and the others in the organization.
358/2 days PS: Something i cant figure out is why it is called Organization XIII, if there are 14 members (maybe he is a secret agent who may stell be alive!!)

I think Tetsuya Nomura should also put “birth by sleep” in the ps2, because almost every game in ths psp becomes a game in ps2 and it isnt very hard to change from psp to ps2 (it uses the same technology, so they just have to make it compatable)

Xogonal-The Reincarnation of Roxas: The reason it is called Organization XIII because at the time Kingdom Hearts 2 was released the Organization was suppose to have 13 members. In other words Organization XIII is actually just called the Organization. All the number at the end Organization was just to let you know how many was in the Organization. Nomura had already covered that question in an interview.

MGS, nobody has confirmed what console KH3 will be on, so anybody saying “dude, its for the ps3/cell phone” etc is wrong, because they havent released any info on it. its a good marketting plan spining off theese 3 side games, but i think its gonna annoy a lot of fans; my phone wont support it, and i dont own a DS or PSP. im gonna save for them all, but it kinda sucks at the same time, and i think most fans will agree, i wanna play them all!!

It’s rediculous to think that Nomura and Square would release “Kingdom Hearts 3″ on a mobile phone platform. Please get me the interview where he said this so I can see for myself. Or maybe you are thinking about the interview where he said that one of the upcoming games will be for mobile phones.
Do you think we can use our brains when we spit out these rediculous thoughts. KH3 will be released for the top home console, and one that they are familiar with, PS3. They WILL use the same game engine that is being used for FF versus 13, too.

Ok, The interview that Nomura stated he would be making a game for the cellphone is referring to his “New project” that also was referring to him creating a series of games not based on Sora.(in nomura interview on this site) One could also deduce that since coded had not even been announced yet that this is the game he was referring to. He also wanted to give sora a break. meaning that any new games coming out for his “new project” would be on portables (which was stated in the interview. KH3 is going to be something else entirely. For all we know right now none of the videos we have seen are confirmed to be in KH3. even the birth by sleep video is going to be in one of the 3 new games. It is very possible that something entirely new will be out for PS3. While there is not a public statement confirming that KH3 will be for the ps3 there (at least for the interviews I have looked at) is definitely nothing stating that KH3 will be for mobile. If you find something to the contrary please show me.

I think all these games will be awsome, I think it is sad how none of them are going to be for the Ps2.Unfortunately thats the ony one I have. You would think that they would make it for the Ps2 because alot more people have that than anything else, at least that’s what I think.But if it comes down to it I’ll have to end up buying the PSP.

Interview: Development from Kingdom Hearts re Chain of Memories, therefore the team in Osaka is handling the game as well.
Nomura: Development started earlier, however due to re:COM needed to be improved a lot, the production of BBs was interupted.
Interviewer: Then we can consider it possible that the secret movie of KH2FM+ will play an important role in BBS?
Nomura: Yes
Interviewer: So does this take place before the first Kingdom Hearts game?
Nomura: Yes, however it doesn’ start immediately before Kingdom Hearts.
Interviewer: Is there a representatoin to the name of Terra, and the other characters?
Nomura: In the origin of the names Earth is Terra, as Wind is Ven. However the real name of Ven is loner, this is just an alias.
Interviewer: The figure and age of the old man who is called Master Xehanort, is different from the Xehanort of Kingdom Hearts II. Also what is the relationship with the person who looks just like Roxas?
Nomura: There is a mystery to who each character is in the story, which I can not reveal right now.
Interviewer: Is the master who taught the three from the current series?
Nomura: I can’t say.
Interviewer: The story will advance around these three people?
Nomura: Yes, it is also pretty complex in this game, and can become very series. Watanabe who took chare of the scenarios is skillfull in this. Also he is supervising some of the scenarios of the other two titles. This game will also be a bit challenging since the game will be featuring the aspect of three people.
Interviewer:There will be an individual story for each of them?
Yasushi: Yes, also the gameplay and feeling for each of their playthroughs will be different. It will feel as if three games were made.
Interviewer: In Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories there was a chapter of Sora, and a chapter of Riku. Would you call these two scenarios?
Yasushi: Yes, however in this case completing one story will create more mysteries for the other characters, making you wanting to play them to figure out the mysteries.
Interviewer: Like zapping?
Yasushi: Well it depends, in a way the game wouldn’t be the same if we changed it’s contents.
Yoshimoto: It’s not really easy to explain right now, please wait a bit more in the future. (Laughs)
Interviewer: How about the composition of the worlds? Where do you beigin, and does it become an adventure where you go into Disney Worlds?
Yasushi: I think that it will be better to keep a normal feeling of Disney Worlds, but also have new worlds as well. Of course there will also be two or more new worlds where you are surprised.
Interviewer: How much will they enjoy the games?
Nomura: Mainly the story will be their enjoyment, and because this game will take place in the past the Disney Worlds will also have a little timeshift as well.
Interviewer: When the battle images were shown to the public, there was a new enemy that wasn’t a heartless or a nobody, what is it?
Nomura: It is neither, a Heartless or a Nobody, this is a new type of enemy. Because the existence of these creatures came before Heartless and Nobodies a starting point needs to be imaged, and it became a wild concept to them.
Yasushi: Basically it becomes wild. However, its moves are fast!
Interviewer: What will the battle system become? As well as the “Lingering Spirit” and the character in the Secret Movie.
Yasushi:That was done as a hint, because it is an image to the end. Also this game will be introducing a new system!
Nomura: It might be one of the most current games of the series that have been announced during this time. Also the Level system features a new idea that has not been seen before.
Yasushi: “When you absorb it in what?” (Laughs) It is considered as a Novel, and an impact to the leveling system. (He seemed to have been quoting something, could it be a hint?)
Yoshimoto: It is really interesting actually, however I think you’ll be able to understand it more if youo saw it from a screen image, so please wait a while longer.
Nomura: This growth system was made, by one person.
Interviewer: Can you give a hint?
Yasushi: …..The level up is like growing.
Interviewer: Is it possible where people can play by bringing PSP’s together?
Yoshimoto: Well, we are thinking by a co-operation between people, or even competing against each other. We are trying to think of an element that could make use of the PSP fully.
Nomura: Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days has a different concept, and multiplayer is also complete, and different.
Interviewer: Though there seems to be a variety in the beginning of the story. The game system also seems to have more content to make it enjoyable.
Yoshimoto: Well, the idea first came out really fast, and changed rapidly as well. It was interesting to see the traditional gameplay of Kingdom hearts, but at the same time the hardship of the gameplay as well.
Nomura: This is a game which the variety can play, even if all the mysteries in the story were solved.
Yasushi: From here on after, the game is just going to get better. The battle system will also be enjoyable. The feeling of the game will be as close to Kingdom Hearts as possible, but with a few twists.
Yoshimoto: Also even tohugh the game will be more serious, it will please those that are a fan of Disney. The worlds are prepared with a surprise even though the story is serious. I think the mixture of disney with this will be interesting.
Interviewer: By the way, this game was announced at the same time as Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and Kingdom Hearts Coded. Were you anxious?
Yasushi We were very anxious about everything, the system and the story. I thought it was considerate through the PV that was shown at the Tokyo Game Show.
Nomura: This game will have to wait sadly, however we also need to think about the sales in the end.

Now I start to think that the Organization’s 14th member has a connection with Aqua. You guys saw in the trailer what Master Xehanort did to Ven. Maybe the 14th member is Aqua’s daughter or someone who has a strong connection with her and Ven, who have come to get revenge about happened, because Master Xehanort and Xemnas look pretty much like each other, and the 14th member who comes to get her revenge, might think that these two villians have a connection. If Aqua and Ven were in love, maybe they had a daughter. (Omg, I can’t allmost belive this theory myself!) That daughter could have come to take her revenge, because I don’t honestly think that in the timeline of KH1-KH2 they would be alive anymore, because that battle with Master Xehanort, I think that was their last, and that’s WHY(!!) I personally think that the 14th member of the organization is an all new character. I don’t see them using Aqua in Birth by Sleep and 358/2 Days aw swell but that’s just me. Kingdom Hearts: Coded which does take place after Kingdom Hearts 2 is for cell phones, but is not Kingdom Hearts 3. Like Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories took place after Kingdom Hearts 1, but was not Kingdom Hearts 2. Also it’s not going to be an MMORPG because, unlike Final Fantasy, it is a continuing story based game. To make it into an MMORPG they would have to make a game that isn’t Kingdom Hearts 3, but set in the Kingdom Hearts universe.

Josh/ViVi: The only problem with your idea that the 14th member would be Riku’s nobody is the fact that Riku is a guy and the nobody is a girl. From what we know about that human nobodies is that take a similar appearance of the person they once, including the gender of that person. MGS_Horsey_FTW, the 360 has the best graphics and the best experience of all three. The Wii may have the worst graphics of all three and the games right now suck, but an exciting game called Super Smash Bros. Brawl is coming out very early next year. Several other games, like Galaxy, are games I’m looking forward to. I want to see a point in buying the PS3. KH3 MAY come out on the PS3, but it may come out on the Wii. However I have no citation to prove that KH3 will come out on the PS3 or the Wii, you can’t prove everything just by saying you know Nomura.

Kingdom Hearts 3 WILL NOT be on the wii. There isn’t enough functionality in the wii remote to support a kingdom hearts game. You can only make basic motions that are recognized and it’s not enough to keep up with KH2’s gameplay, let alone the revamped system KH3 SHOULD sport. Yeah, it’s a shame people don’t think things through before they post. Making KH3 for the wii will almost be as bad as if they made it for mobile. They could release it on 360 if they wanted too, but that would take the game away from its fanbase. That’s why SE will stick with Sony. And like I said, they already have the battle system in place.

Even though Kingdom Hearts III will come out on PS3, I HOPE that it will be on Wii or 360 also. I’ve noticed that a lot of games are starting to be releasing on Wii. (Guitar Hero III, Rock Star (not confirmed, but was heavily hinted at), and a future release of a Katamari game)
I don’t plan on getting a PS3 for a LONG time. Not a big fan of Sony, but there are a few great games on PS2 :]
If it’s exclusive, hopefully I can save up enough money…

Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep is released on PSP, unfortunately, because I’d like to get it most of these three new games, but I don’t have PSP. Kingdom Hearts 3, or what the real name of the project ever is (was it Keyblade War? That’s what I heard!), will be released on PS3, I’m allmost sure about that.

The wii remote IS NOT functional enough to be entertaining. You would attack by swinging it back and forth and in circles and it would get old VERY fast. If you’ve played Twilight Princess you already know the extent of what they can do with the wii’mote and it won’t work for KH’s faster combat speed and diversity of moves.

KH3 will be strictly for PS3. Re: COM was only released on multiple platforms because it was a re-release. And I think SE believed that not enough people got to enjoy COM because of the platform they chose for it. Plus, it is an important bridge between KH1 and 2, so why not add it for the final mix?

What i want to know, is if i got my timeline correct as far as how the games are supposed to happen: Brith By Sleep, KH1, 358/2, Chain Of Memories, KH2, Coded, KH3….. sounds right to me right? also another question i have is since KH3 is going to be on PS3 and Coded is going to be on a Cell phone, what phone will support a game with that much detail? and what carrier is going to offer it? like when LOTR came out for cell phones, verizion was the one to be its carrier. and another thing, are all these games going to be released in the US? i know final mix might not be (sucky as that may be) but i mean there are some details in FM that needs to be known before understanding coded and KH3, its not going to be like the transition between KH1 and KH2 with COM being a side story that you dont really need to know if you dont want too. is this going to be the same way? or is this you have to play these games to get the rest of the story line? Kingdom Hearts Forever!: First of all your time line is correct. That is the order of the games. As for what cell phones will support it and what phones it will be for, we don’t know yet. However the Kingdom Hearts game released on the Mobile Phone made by Disney and Superscape, with no involment from Square-Enix, was on the Verizion Wireless VCAST network. So it is a good bet that if it is released in America it has a good chance of it being the carrier. The other two games will be released in America however.
