More From Nomura In Dengeki
TheWertle translated yet more of the stuff in Dengeki PS Magazine (shown on FF13Vids). I’ll put a summary here of the most important points from this and other interviews:
- Nomura has stated in the past that the “New Project” MAY be a “Non-game project” and that it WILL NOT have “Kingdom Hearts” in the title.
- Nomura has now stated that this project may be an interesting side-story focusing on characters other than Sora, although Sora still has a big role.
- He should be explaining “Birth By Sleep” a bit more, what Mickey did in the World of Darkness, and how Mickey got his Keyblade.
- He’ll want to work on developing Roxas the most. He thinks it’s interesting that his birth and disappearance have both been drawn within a year.
- He wants to make this “New Project” slightly different from the Kingdom Hearts series including slight changes in the system.
- The armoured figures in the “Birth By Sleep” video are connected to Xemnas/Xehanort. There may be elaboration on this.
- Nomura has previously confirmed that after the Final Fantasy XIII games, he will be concentrating on the story of Kingdom Hearts.
- Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+ was confirmed to be Nomura’s final PlayStation 2 game, and therefore any future Kingdom Hearts games will only be on PlayStation 3 or possibly other gaming systems.
- The “New Project” should be announced soon, although Nomura wants to keep the title a secret for awhile and tell us at just the right time.
- Multi-developing makes Nomura want to put the “New Project” on another system. If he does, he wants to decide whether to make it for PSP, Nintendo DS or mobile phones.
- Square-Enix are currently working on three projects in total. One of them is confirmed to be Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but it’s unknown what the other two are. They’re unrelated to eachother though.
- Yoko Shimomura will be attending the Square-Enix Party 2007. She’s looking forward to meeting people and asks everyone to wait patiently.
In other news, Deathspank from KH-Vids, with TheWertle’s help, has now translated some of the Reverse/Rebirth cutscenes:

i think that in the kingdom hearts 3 sora will turn from light to dark because(spoiler warning)when you defeat xeahnort and sora is dragging riku away sora says that he felt the darkness aswell so maybe this time riku might have to take him away from the darkness (or kairi).
or instead the enemy that will occur maybe light but sora would not fight so instead have to take himself in to darkness to fight the light but if defeated could sora go back from darkness back into light.
in the secret ending of kingdom hearts 2 those armour plated people are called chasers and they are ready for ANOTHER keyblade war so what i thnk is that the message that was given to sora, riku and kairi is to announce that you must be ready for a keyblade war.
in the final mix kingdom hearts 2 that man who went against the warriors (chasers i think)is the hooded guy at the start of kh1 when he says ‘this world is connected’ or was that ansem.

I believe Kai is partially right, but Roxas is most likely not the lookalike in the secret video. What is likely to be the story line is that Sora is a descendant and embodiment of the guy that looks like Roxas. So, its like the guy in the secret vid haunts the world and was reborn when sora lost his heart. Or maybe Sora is a direct descendant. I get the creepy feeling that Zexion was blue haired boy. Then again, kinda looks like riku too. Almost looks like the final boss stage in KH2 where the three fight 2 on 1. And Its practically screamed at you that Xehanort was there with them in the secret vid(brown hair so i dont know wtf is going on for sure, the eyes give it away though).
So before any of you massacre my rant, I’m not basing this on fact but on hints throughout the game (and fantasy based stories of heroes and sorcery and etc…)

so…he said he won’t make anymore KH stuff til the new project begins, I’m assuming this is the end of the debate that this will reach North America, right? I still don’t see why he wouldn’t make an American version….or can someone plz tell me I’m wrong in this matter?

Roxas wasn’t frozen because the guy that got frozen wasn’t Roxas. And it was Ansem the Wise, not Xehanort, who liked the Sea Salt Ice Cream. (Xehanort without the X also spells ‘Another’.)
And simply the fact that Sora would still play a big role means that he’s not going to be disregarded all together, so Squeenix won’t be ‘p!ssing of its fans’ [sic]. Besides, think of it this way: Every game in the main Final Fantasy franchise has been completely unrelated to any other, and Final Fantasy is one of the most successful game franchises of all time.
Squaresoft (later Square-Enix) has pretty much built its history on taking gambles. Final Fantasy was one of the biggest ones (it was most likely going to be the company’s and Sakaguchi’s last game), and it turned out to be pretty much an overnight success. The shift from the traditional fantasy style of FFI-VI to the gritty futuristic style of FFVII was a huge risk (alienating the fans of one of your most profitable series is a very bad idea, as they find later), and that turned out to be pretty much the most popular game of the whole series, and ended up defining the RPG genre. Final Fantasy X was a big shift, too, abandoning both the futuristic style AND the traditional fantasy style, and it also turned out to be a huge hit. And heck, look at Kingdom Hearts itself: a Final Fantasy/Disney crossover with 4 characters not found in either of the two companies prior rosters. Kingdom Hearts had just as much potential to be a monumental flop as it did to be wildly successful.
Of course, Square has taken some big gambles that have cost it, as well. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, anyone? Their attempt to broaden their audience ended up alienating almost everyone (average movie-goers because it was too ‘out there’, and Final Fantasy fans because it wasn’t Final Fantasy enough). And as someone said earlier, Dirge of Cerberus. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the game, mainly about the graphics. (If I could find a script of the game, that would be perfect. I feel behind the times on a game that’s 10 years old.)

ok first of all whoever kai is is kinda stupid. thats not roxas in the khfm+ secret ending. nomura said the three characters were new to the series. u need to do some research and pay attention to the obvious

and ever think it says Birth By Sleep rite… Roxas was Frozen he can still be alive and Roxas was Best pals proplay with xehanort why do I think this because Roxas and xehanort both like same ice cream in 2ed one.. and I if enrange xehanort and take x out spells no heart… werid eh? Roxas - Sora..

ohh i think i get it now i think.. its still really confusing and i just think he would lose alot of profits by pissing off fans by changing the title and format
on 29 Apr 2007 at 8:21 pm 11. wes
it still sells more in america tho. and i want proof of the interview with nomura about not calling it kh and not having sora as the main character. it just doesnt seem logical

I think what most people are failing to realize is that the DS is one of the most owned systems in Japan. Everyone has one, from 3 year old girls to 50 year old mothers. Saying that it shouldn’t come out on the DS because it people would need to go buy the system is pretty irrelevant. KH isn’t made for American audiences, it’s made for Japan, and then they sell it to america too.

If you’ve read it, you’d see that next KH WON’T BE KH !
So, it won’t have Sora on it ¬¬
If the other game’ll be KH, it’ll have Sora on it.

I too would hope it comes out on PS3, and there’s nothing to say it won’t except for the fact that Nomura would like to put it on something else. I might buy a PSP, but if it’s mobile phone then it’ll only be available in Japan. They’ve already done one mobile phone game for Kingdom Hearts (which wasn’t important), and I seriously hope they don’t do another.
Yes Wes, he has said that this side-story will not be named Kingdom Hearts, although I’m pretty sure they’ll make it clear to us what the name actually is and that it’ll be related, especially if it’s a Disney/Square-Enix game. There are no others.
Although I didn’t mention it, Nomura has said he’d like to work with the Wii, but it was thought that he wouldn’t use it with Kingdom Hearts.

You’d think they would learn from FFVII-Degree of Cerberus that they are taking a gamble.
But to think that they would again short stack the game by moving it to a portable system like the did with Chain of Memories, most of the people I know that love the KH series including myself never played CoM due to the fact that they would have to go out and buy another system for just one game.
It kind of ticks me off since the atmosphere for the “Knights” stories is being portrayed as dark and ominous and I just can’t see that feeling as being readable in a tiny pixilated cartoon sprits that will no doubt be brightly coloured. I feel like the fans are getting jipped. And I will only play the game if it comes out on a standard console (PS3?).
But I love the series enough to play a game without Sora he needs a vacation after all, plus you can expect him in the Final KH installment due to the fact that it was set up at the end of KHII with Mickey’s letter.
And Nomura-san will never read this T_T Damn you and your Crack Genius!!!

lol it would be funny if when the new thing came out no-one would recognize it as a kh game
on 29 Apr 2007 at 4:00 am 5. thep!ssedfan
thats a bunch of sh!t .
it should be soras role.

on 29 Apr 2007 at 1:39 am 3. wes
what about the WILL NOT be called kingdom hearts
on 29 Apr 2007 at 1:32 am 2. Riku
Notice the word “may” about it being a non-game project. Nomura mentioned it a few months ago. The rest of it is confirmed information.
on 29 Apr 2007 at 1:06 am 1. wes
wtf. what do u mean by a non-game project? and i think thats a bunch of bullsh*t about how its not gonna be called kingdom hearts. do u know how much money square would lose bc of that? also nomora said kingdom hearts was “sora’s story”. if it wasnt sora as the main character square would lose major profits for p!ssing of its fans.
