Scenario Mysteries Interview
TheWertle has struck again! This time with an excellent interview with Tetsuya Nomura from Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+ Ultimania called “Scenario Mysteries”, in which he confirms the Enigmatic Soldier’s name as Terra!
In Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+, many mysteries are answered but many new mysteries are also born.
In this version, things relating to additional scenes are included, but during the story there are some questions that pop up, so we’ll see if Nomura can point us in the right direction.
Question: In the original Kingdom Hearts, the King searches for a Keyblade in the Realm of Darkness, but when he meets Ansem the Wise, is the Realm of Light Keyblade he has the one that Sora is currently using?
Nomura: No. The King has the ability to use Keyblades from both the Realms of Darkness and of Light. This is an important point - There isn’t just one Keyblade from each world, but just as many as there are people with qualified hearts.
Question: During the meetings, the members of Organization XIII are sitting in chairs. Is the height of these chairs determined by things like their skills and abilities?
Nomura: No. The height of the chairs is not fixated - They move. That is to say that the height is up to each person. The leader, Xemnas, is always the highest, and to be at the same height as him would give that member a pretty bad feeling, so the other members wouldn’t do that. *Laughs*
Question: At the end of Sora and Riku’s stories in Re: Chain of Memories, Roxas looks back while Hayner and the rest are walking and eating ice-cream, and without seeming to care, Hayner and the others continue walking. Is this because they can’t see Roxas?
Nomura: Well it’s just because they don’t know Roxas that they don’t notice him, not because they can’t see him. At that time, right after Xemnas explains Roxas’ name, Axel says to leave things to him. Then, Roxas seems jealous of how Hayner and the others are enjoying themselves while eating ice-cream, and Axel interprets this as him wanting some ice-cream, so he is obliged to go buy him some.
Question: In the real Twilight Town, didn’t Roxas cross paths with Hayner and the others and make aquaintances with them?
Nomura: I suppose. You can think whatever you want about that.
Question: What triggered Roxas’ separation from the Organization?
Nomura: As he kept having recurring dreams of Sora, someone he didn’t know, he felt he needed to leave the Organization to find out who these people he didn’t know were. As Axel didn’t want him to go, he didn’t tell Sora about Roxas in Castle Oblivion, did he?
Question: In Riku’s ending in Re: Chain of Memories, could you tell us the meaning of the scene where the King and Riku are walking together and Riku suddenly plops down.
Nomura: That’s because Riku realized he couldn’t completely get rid of the Darkness inside of him. The King mentioned in Kingdom Hearts II that as Riku held Xehanort’s Heartless in his heart, he disappeared from the King’s sight. It’s a sort of foreshadowing. In this scene, the King’s face looks worried for a moment because he felt that Riku might eventually no longer be there. Riku headed towards DiZ in order to restore Sora’s memories to normal, but in the end, his departure from the King was so that he wouldn’t show his preparations to use the Darkness.
Question: Could you tell us at what point Riku covered his eyes?
Nomura: When he departed from the King. You don’t know after the scene, but in Riku’s ending in Re: Chain of Memories, when he comes to wherever DiZ is, he’s already covered his eyes.
Question: Please confirm some things about Castle Oblivion. In the additional event “The Truth about the Chamber of Sleep”, you can gather from Xigbar and Zexion’s conversation that Castle Oblivion existed in the Inbetween Realm before the birth of the Organization. The Organization then found it and used it for experiments about memories and to look for the Chamber of Awakening, right?
Nomura: Yes. Since their conversation was about Marluxia’s entry, they discovered the Castle before that. In fact, its use, according to Secret Ansem Report 7, was for only 13 Organization Members. Naminé awoke in Castle Oblivion, but as she and Roxas were born at the same time, half of the Organization moved to the Castle.
Question: In the additional event “To Put an End to Everything”, Sora says “It should have been easy to say thanks to Naminé, but I couldn’t say it”. At this point in time, does Sora remember the things that happened with Naminé?
Nomura: If he remembers, it’s because Naminé’s existence was made possible by Sora, and when Naminé and Roxas return to Kairi and Sora, many things were connected. Since Sora never got to say thanks to Naminé, please think of that as a hint.
Question: In the additional event “Farewell to a Friend”, there’s a scene where Axel tells Roxas “You really do have a heart, don’t you”. What is the actual case here?
Nomura: In this scene, it ends bringing up more mysteries about Roxas, so for the answer, maybe take care to follow your hunches well. It’s also related to Xehanort’s memories, but I can’t give any specifics now.
Question: We’d like to inquire about the new secret movie “Birth By Sleep”. In the new event “The Truth about the Chamber of Sleep”, Xigbar mentions a “group that wields Keyblades”. Is he talking about the 3 armored people in the movie?
Nomura: Yes, Xigbar witnessed them when he was a disciple to Ansem the Wise.
Question: The Lingering Sentiment (Enigmatic Soldier) is the same as the armored youth in the movie, but when he fights Sora he mentions “Aqua” and “Ven”. Are those the names of the other 2?
Nomura: Yes, the blue haired girl is Aqua.
Question: What is the armored youth’s name?
Nomura: His name appeared once in code in the 2006 Tokyo Game Show Promotional Video. Also, Ven is actually a nickname, but his real name is a little bit longer. Sora, Riku, and Kairi’s names can be seen as “Sky, Land, and Sea” respectively. The 3 armored people’s names take the shape of different properties of the world, “Water, Wind, and Earth”.
Statement: Ven looks an awful lot like Roxas…
Nomura: I can’t give any specifics about that. He may just resemble him, and if there is a connection, Sora may be related too. What I can say right now is that these mysteries are all connected to the story.
Question: In the beginning, the armored youth’s eyes are blue, but at the end they change to gold. Is this revealing a change in him?
Nomura: I can’t give specifics about this either… I think everyone’s imaginations are pretty capable so please try and anticipate a lot of things.
Translated by TheWertle. I edited and corrected spelling and grammar.
- In the photo below, it shows a screenshot of the code that flowed across the screen for a moment during the Promotional Video at the Tokyo Game Show 2006. It has been decoded as:
“Master Xehanort’s Avenger, his name is Terra.”
“Not yet awakened, he is connected to those two.”

What path does Terra and Aqua and Ven take?
on 19 May 2007 at 10:42 pm 149. Mohrphorm
He’s right, it is Roxas. If you remember, that scene happened in the very beginning of KH2, when Xemnas tells Roxas about Sora (and despite being subbed, Roxas has no audio).

Hey Ven! in the post you put up you wanted to know how the person with the eye is. that’s Roxas from the first final mix secret video. go to google and type in kingdom hearts final mix, you should find alot more pics like that.

I didn’t buy the first KH game until KH2 came out. And the only reason that I got was because I like the music that was played on the KH commercials. Some people think that’s a weird reason, but hey.
on 19 May 2007 at 8:41 pm 146. Mohrphorm
Yep =D I didn’t buy KH until 2 years after it came out. It wa sout of boredom. I was hooked on it, and I couldn’t wait for KH2.
on 19 May 2007 at 8:16 pm 145. vinan123
I remember when the first KH game came out, and a lot of people thought it was going to be lame, becuase of the Disney characters. And now, five years later, we’re all talking about what’s going to happen next.

Basing everything of of appearance isn’t very accurate, especially since IM, they look only vaguely alike. Ven/Sora and Aqua/Kairi have a more comparable appearance. Only thing is, why is Terra pertaining to Riku?
on 19 May 2007 at 7:33 pm 143. jeff
sorry about that go: www.kingdomhearts3.us/
on 19 May 2007 at 7:30 pm 142. jeff
hey go to www.kingdom hearts 3.us/ it shows an example of a resemblence between xehanort and terra saying they are possibly brothers or something and has some pretty good points to prove that they maybe are and a ton of other stuff.

sorry this is out of no where but does Ven like die???? hhaaa. sry. that was sad to watch. anywayy I dont understand either how Terra could be Sora’s father. by the way Aqua looks like Kairi so i think they could be related also. shes pretty.

I had to repost this because I got the “your comment is awaiting moderation” and thought nobody saw it.
From where I left off, remember when The Old Man froze Ven. You saw a portion of Darkness within that sequence. Since The Old Man knew he wouldn’t be alive forever, he must’ve taken his heart, or soul for that matter, and left Ven with nothing, but his body. The Old Man must’ve used the heart he stole and invade Ansem the Wise much like Ansem invaded Riku’s body. I know it might sound like a stupid theory, but I did think alot about this.
on 19 May 2007 at 4:37 pm 138. Ace of Diamonds
Now, the story says that before Radiant Garden was turned into Maleficent’s Hollow Bastion, Ansem the Wise found Xehanort, near death with absolutely no recollection of his past life. Under the guidance of Ansem the Wise, Xehanort began to learn at an alarming rate, even Ansem said he possessed SuperHuman abilities. Xehanort began to grow more interested, particularly of the heart, and how powerful it is. He offered to be a test subject to try and gain his memories back. But Ansem could see that Xehanort grew into Darkness. Xehanort, along with Zexion, Lexaeus, Xigbar, Vexen, and Dilan left Ansem the Wise, and like Xehanort, abandoned their bodies to Darkness. Now, I’m not sure what caused Ansem to leave Radiant Garden, and have Maleficent turn it into what she did, but I guess Xehanort, well Xemnas & The Organization were after him seemingly because Ansem might know a bit about Xehanort. Here’s where it gets confusing. Ansem found Xehanort long before Sora’s adventure began. This leads me to believe that Xehanort had to grow up to become as youthful as he looks in the photos. Terra relates to Riku, Ven relates to Sora & Roxas, and Aqua relates to Kairi. So, either something happened to turn Xehanort younger, Xehanort was none of the characters in the ending, but was hurt during the war, or maybe(don’t bash me), Ven could be Xehanort. I mean, Ven was frozen after all. He lost ALL his memories including his name. Xehanort could’ve been the only name he remembered. If all this happened before Sora’s adventure, Xehanot had to be at a young age when he was found.

Shakespear- In portuguese wind is Vento and Water is Agua. almost the same as Latin erth is Terra exactly the same.
Also i would like to say that though i don’t believe that any of the know characters are Soras father weve never seen his parents, he’s never talked about them. All we did as hear his moms voice the day he disapeared on the islands.
on 19 May 2007 at 3:52 pm 136. Mohrphorm
Hmmm… I see what you mean now. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nomura used the time travel concept again. Nomura did make a cryptic statement when asked about whether the ending movie took place in the past or future… Maybe, Xehanort was changing the past in the video.
on 19 May 2007 at 3:38 pm 135. Shakespeare
But the body DOES return somewhere. If you defeat a Nobody after you’ve defeated it’s corresponding Heartless, then the heart and the body recombine. Nomura says so in Another Report (Pages 29 and 30).
“In the case of a Nobody being defeated, it’s a little more complicated. If the above mentioned hearts are liberated, they return to their original form.”
(Note how he always uses the word ‘defeated’, not ‘destroyed’.)
When you beat a Nobody, they disappear into Darkness. But the same happens when you defeat a Heartless, and you certainly aren’t destroying that heart…it just goes somewhere else, waiting to reunite with its missing body.
Anyway, old Xehanort and young Xehanort…I think they’re two separate entities, but still the same person, very much like Timeless River Pete and Main Storyline Pete existing together in the game (and even meeting and fighting one another).
on 19 May 2007 at 2:42 pm 134. Mohrphorm
I see how that can work, but the only surviving parts of him left is the heart and soul. Unlike those two (I’m assuming with the soul), the body is destroyed completely. It doesn’t return to anywhere. Rather, a new body is formed. This how I beleive old Xehanort (assumed) became young Xehanort - the classical cycle of rebirth. I assume the same happened for Aqua and Ven.
I have no doubt that the soul will have an important role in the next game. Maybe not as a new set of enemies, but something else. Judging by the fact that Nobodies are supposedly destined to fade into darkness, despite not having a heart, perhaps it is the soul that govern’s life’s balance between light and darkness.
on 19 May 2007 at 6:06 am 133. Shakespeare
I already posted a lengthy reply regarding the soul in Nomura games any why it’s not a third ‘form’ (along with Heartless and Nobodies)…
And there are no incarnations left, but since the two that existed were destroyed in the proper order, Xehanort has returned to life, most likely somewhere in Radiant Garden.
on 19 May 2007 at 3:24 am 132. Mohrphorm
Hmmm… this is all very possible. As of KH2, no incarnation of Xehanort exists any longer, unless ANOTHER bad guy is revealed. The only mechanic left is the soul, but I won’t get into that… too much speculation.
Like I have said before - the knight is akin to “Ansem’s” guardian. The two of them are one and the same, it just makes him all the more dangerous. Mickey isn’t cartoony like he is in Steamboat Willie, so that may imply that this isn’t as far back as we think it is. Now that I think about it, Nomura mentioned that one of the stories that remain is what Mickey did in the realm of darkness. Is it possible that these events took place? In FM+, the portal to the Terra fight is in the keystone room. Maybe this implies that we need to shift our focus over to Mickey…
on 19 May 2007 at 2:09 am 131. Shakespeare
Well, Luke Skywalker tried to kill his father without knowing it was his father…but Sora lived with his parents on Destiny Islands. I doubt that Xehanort is his father.
And I have suggested that it’s possible that both the old man and the knight in ‘Heartless Armor’ (I only call it that because there’s nothing else to call it, really…there isn’t a Heartless Emblem on it, but it certainly has the color theme) are Xehanort. Ansem was a magic user, so it stands to reason that Xehanort had some pretty powerful magic behind him (perhaps that’s what Ansem the Wise meant when he said that Xehanort had extraordinary, superhuman power?), so a future Xehanort with even more power could find a way into the realm where the crossroads are. I mean, Sora and company went into the past, too, why can’t Xehanort?
on 18 May 2007 at 11:32 pm 130. Mohrphorm
To #129: No, it just means that he killed two insane incarnations of his father, who if he is Xehanort, would probably be alot crazier than the fakes.
on 18 May 2007 at 11:21 pm 129. Hearts of Darkness
To vinan123/post #120: yes I have. amine usually have the same type of characters in all of them. Like a hothead, or an Emo kid or the avenger. But I wasn’t confused. I know Sasuke is trying to avenge his clan, but he does call him itachi’s avenger. that’s why I think Terra might have the same background as Sasuke, like how Sasuke’s older bother destroyed Sasuke’s clan. Maybe Terra must avenge that of which Xahanort destroyed too, becoming Xahanort’s ‘avenger’. I’m just sayin’.
Again vinan123/post #125: WHAAAAAAAAT????? No way can Xahanort be Sora’s father! If that was ture than that means that Sora killed his father twice! Yeah really father/son love right there.
on 18 May 2007 at 10:55 pm 128. Mohrphorm
Latin is the root of all Romance languages - I don’t beleive any of its descendant languages would be used.
As for the dark knight being Xehanort, that isn’t a Heartless symbol on its chest. But think of this: There are two types of Heartless - Pureblood and Emblem. IF Xehanort is the Dark Knight, and he just lost his memories, maybe his memories gradually returned to him, and he saw himself, and was inspired to create the emblem’s design. The “Another” and “No Heart” concept go well with him - I never thought of it before it was mentioned by someone else. However, if the Dark Knight is Xehanort, then who is the old guy? Terra absolutely hates Xehanort for something he did. Seeing that the Dark Knight was just summoned, I still firmly believe that the old guy reincarnates as Xehanort, despite what I afforementioned.
on 18 May 2007 at 10:05 pm 127. Shakespeare
Tami, what are the words for ‘wind’ and ‘water’ in Portuguese? Portuguese is Latin based, so it makes sense that it would show up. (I believe ‘Terra’ is French for ‘earth’, as well. A lot of southern European languages have Latin roots.)
Names in German wouldn’t be so mysterious…hm, I wonder what element ‘Wasser’ and ‘Erde’ are tied to…? (And let’s not forget my favorite…’Wind’.)
on 18 May 2007 at 10:00 pm 126. Shakespeare
Leon attacked Sora at the beginning of KH before they knew each other…his reason pertained to the Keyblade as well. Pretty much everything in KH happens because of the Keyblade, not because people don’t like Sora or something. (He’s a pretty likable kid, anyway, so that’s not the problem.)
And I don’t know that Xehanort would be old enough to have kids…realistically, anyway, and considering that this game is a joint project with DISNEY. Ansem the Wise made mention that if Xehanort acted immature in any way, it was because he was so young. He was probably a teenager when Ansem the Wise found him (as Terra appears to be the oldest of the Chasers), and that doesn’t seem old enough to have kids. (I know that it’s possible, but we’re talking about a Disney game. They would NOT let that fly.)
on 18 May 2007 at 9:10 pm 125. vinan123
Shakespeare, I know that people like Hercules and Leon aren’t evil but it’s a different case for them they were fighting in a tournament. As for Sephiroth, he actually did have a reason for fighting Sora. He didn’t exactly say it out loud, but he wanted to kill Sora to get the Keyblade.
I wonder if Xehanort is Sora’s father? That would explain why Terra wanted to fight Sora, and why he kept saying Xehanort’s name over and over again. Maybe they both look alike in some sort of way.
on 18 May 2007 at 8:55 pm 124. Tami
I READ, Riku. I just said that it seems odd that it is in my language and I’m used to seeing Japanese names or english not a name that actually means an “object” in my own mother language!
on 18 May 2007 at 3:39 am 123. Shakespeare
I think that Xehanort /was/ the one he chose, but he went down the path of Darkness, and that’s probably one of the reasons that Terra has such a vendetta against Xehanort.
It’s very much like Anakin Skywalker…he was the Chosen One, but he turned to the dark side. (If you don’t like the Star Wars comparison, Riku is exactly the same. He was chosen to wield the Keyblade, but he accepted Darkness.)
on 18 May 2007 at 3:01 am 122. Ace of Diamonds
But, when he fought Sora, he mentioned that he didn’t choose him to weild The Keyblade. Who did he choose? Then, he repeatedly said Xehanort. He must’ve wanted Xehanort to weild The Keyblade to take his heart the same way he took the hearts of the people of his world long ago. I still am not convinced that The Dark Soldier was Xehanort. I’m sure his appearance is important to the story, but he was just there.
on 18 May 2007 at 2:15 am 121. Shakespeare
About Terra fighting Sora…either he was blinded by his rage against Xehanort, or it was a test of sorts. I mean, Sephiroth has no reason to fight Sora…he’s just minding his own business on a cliff, waiting for Cloud to blunder by.
But yeah, not everyone that you fight in KH is hostile to Sora. Hercules certainly isn’t, for instance.
