Tetsuya Nomura interviewed
Firstly, sorry about the slight delay in posting this, as I have been away for the weekend. Here is an interview with Nomura discussing the minor details about the future Kingdom Hearts side-project game. As well as discussing details of the game, I believe we might have a little unofficial confirmation that there will be a Kingdom Hearts 3, which I will discuss after the interview. Here is the interview:
About the new Kingdom Hearts title that will be announced after summer this year (2007), will that be a direct sequel?
Tetsuya Nomura: “Hmm…I’m not sure how much I can say. I’ll start of by saying that it’s not Kingdom Hearts 3.”
So this game will be a side story?
Tetsuya Nomura: “That’s right. My own feelings are that I would like to give Sora a break from large adventures for a little while. So I’m thinking of making the next game’s story focus on other characters.”
So by a little while, do you mean that Sora’s journey from Kingdom Hearts 2 hasn’t finished?
Tetsuya Nomura: “Yes. If you’re talking about the mysteries that started from Kingdom Hearts 1, then those were all revealed. In the ending of Kingdom Hearts II, there was a scene where Sora received a letter from the King; for Sora, I would like you to consider this as a new beginning. The truth is, until the very end, I was considering whether or not to include a scene showing them setting off on a journey after reading the letter.”
So, let’s talk about this new story, which doesn’t have Sora as the main character. What sort of story will it be?
Tetsuya Nomura: “Well, I need to start with the story depicted in a Birth by Sleep. Aside from that, there’s the story of how the King found his keyblade in the world of darkness and other things like that. Myself, one of the things I most want to do is to give Roxas more of a role to play. I think it would be interesting to flesh out more of the year he spent between his birth and disappearance. Or making Riku the main character, and writing about his desperate fight while Sora was asleep, and things like that. You get the impression that Riku summoned Roxas to a place of shadows, and that Riku is a master of shadows, so I would like to give him more exploration in the game.”
Will there be anything different in the game system?
Tetsuya Nomura: “I’d like to try something a little different to the previous games in the KH series. I’m not just talking about the next game, more about the next project, so I can’t say that it will just be one game (laughs). For the Kingdom Hearts series, being made with our company and Disney, both companies have things in mind that we would like to make reality, so there’s always at least two things we want to do.”
What platform does it look like the next game will be released on?
Tetsuya Nomura: “Hmm… Probably a hand-held platform. Right now we’re working on titles for the PSP (FFVII Crisis Core), Nintendo DS (This Wonderful World) and for mobile phones (MONOTONE), so I wouldn’t be surprised if it were on any of those platforms.”
Is there any chance that this game may be released on multiple platforms?
Tetsuya Nomura: “We haven’t considered that in the development. If possible, I would like to make a system that suits the platform. But in contrast, in terms of ideas, I would want ideas that could be released on any platform.”
The more I hear about the next game, the more exciting it sounds, but for the fans the first thing to do is to see KH2 Final Mix’s secret movie isn’t it?
Tetsuya Nomura: “Yes. I’m worried that we made the conditions for getting the secret movie too hard, but through reading this guide, I hope the readers will be able to see the secret movie. Finding a way to defeat (the new boss) is tough, but I’ve seen it done, so I know it’s not impossible (laughs). If you’re able to see the new secret movie and turn your thoughts to the next Kingdom Hearts, I’d be very happy.”

So, perhaps not too much new information, but I think we can take Nomura’s comment that I have highlighted above where he says he would like Sora to have a break from large adventures can be taken to indicate that there will be a Kingdom Hearts III at some point in the future. He doesn’t say he wants to change the format forever, simply that Sora should have a break. I may be foolish, but I take this as a bit of a slip, and that there will more likely than ever, be a Kingdom Hearts 3.

y r u guys complaining about the new kh game for psp/DS? u can trade in 5 GAMES and GET A PSP from EBGAMES,trade in 10 games and u could get a wii or ps3 so for me it doesn’t matter what system the kh game comes out on

Well Kingdom hearts 3 is most likely going to be multiplayer and have you able to play in some parts as different characters i heard that there was another interview with Nomura but i didnt find the hwole interview it said Nomura was hoping to mix magic spells together for more variety but he said it had to be taken out due to small issues with the system.
He also said the keyblade stats did not impact on the game very much.
He also wanted to add more flare to high jump.
That stuff probably will be in the next game thats not the full interview thats just a part of it that i found.

so let me get this straight…it is pretty much clearly said, that it’s going to be handheld. so why are there still people saying sh*t like “KH3 is coming for Wii!”? but damn it…i hoped for a “big” one so bad. how long will i have to wait? this is killing me! i need to know how it goes on! i develepod at least 50 continuations for the story! (at least i remember 50 of them). i hope it will never end. it’s like…the best book EVER just interactive!

So the game with the chasers on it…is for hand-held platform? That has got the be THE worst decision they could have made, fighting stlyes and graphics are incredibly poor on hand-helds, watching “birth by sleep” everyone thought this game was going to be big, exciting and dramatic. I think hand-held is going to ruin it. I am feeling gutted right now.

I personaly believe that KH3 should be on a handheld platform, like the psp. It gives others who don’t have a ps2 a chance to understand what happens in the games. Also, since psp has the ability to connect to the ps3 and do stuff, i believe there will also be a ps3 version.

now hang on. the DS has some damn good graphics. i think it would be a VERY good thng for it to be released on a handheld. for one it is cheaper, and did you not see the cutscenes from Com, they looked just like the PS2, imagine what they could do with the DS. and the DS stylus could bring some interesting possibilities to the mix

Imagine what they could do on a PSP, and the Graphs on the SP didnt look like PS2, they were good for what it was at the time.. PSP has alot more potental than teh DS, well the games show that for them selvs really.

Well all I can say is that I will be VERY DISAPOINTED if it comes out on a handheld platform. I can see this just being another CoM, and if it turns out it is, I won’t be buying it (I didn’t buy CoM either). If they make this for the psp or ds they will be making a HUGE MISTAKE. There has not been one game that has done well from moving from ps2 to handheld platforms, so I don’t why they would even consider it. Let’s just hope that they are still saving the good ideas and story lines for the “real” game when they decide to release one for the ps2 or ps3.

hi people.. I think that It’s best for it to come on PS3 as PS3 is losing money and i guess… yeah.
For the side story thing coming up next, i won’t mind at all if it was about Roxas. i mean, if it is about roxas, then it will be interwined with sora, right? Riku isn’t my favourite character but i think it would alright with him as well. But we may have to miss old donald and old goofy, cuz they stick with sora. However, i actually like Roxas a lot for his “character” and the mysterious connection between him and sora. But still sora is my 1st choice.
I dunno wad to say for KH3, i mean wad else are there actually to fight for? i believe there are some rumours going around about twilight etc.. but if this goes on, KH has limited themes already and that is real sad.. but i guess a KH4 MAY come out(:

Comment #35: The PS3 did drop $100 to $499 but that is because they are getting rid of the 60 GB model and on July 8th 2007 the 80 GB model was sceduled to be released in the US and is set at the old first release price of $599. So people who bought a PS3 when it first came out were jipped 20 GB of internal space and $100 of their cash. It’s a sad truth and soon only the 80 GB’s will be on sale and might drop $100 or so and reduced physical apearence size in the future.
Only the US, Canada and Japan are getting 80 GB models for sure, but all other counties seem to be stuck with the 60 GB or the 20 GB.
There isn’t much difference between the 60 GB and 80 GB but the amount of space. Only the 20 GB lacks: Chrome trim, IEEE 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi and Flash card readers.

i agree with Trav41514 and Daylight like come on!DIDN’T ANYONE OF U READ WHAT I SAID B4?!If u trade in 5(greatest hit games) to ebgames u could get a PSP they’ll give u 250$ so u could get a psp and a memory card stick!now THATS a good deal also they should put ROXAS the main character cuz then u can play as roxas when he joined org.13 and when he betrayed org.13 and u could probably summon nobody and heartless to help u fight! witch is WICKED!and hold 2 keyblades all the time (oblivian and oathkeeper)

Hmm, I seem to have since lost all interest in this game since they announced it would be on a handheld console. The only reason I have a handheld is to play the old FF games and such, not new games. Especially Nomura’s and Square’s best work. Geez, what a disappointment. Crash and Burn.

for one im a die hard fan of the kingdom hearts thing.i have both games n have played them over again.its my favorite game ever.putting it on a portable game thing would be stupid.for one we all appreciate the whole story n the scenes n graphics,this would not be achieved greatly on anything else but a ps3,ps2,or xbox360.it would take away from the whole kingdom hearts story.if it is gonna be on a portable i will not buy it.i didnt buy chain of memories bc of this.we need to convince them to do away w the portable idea.it wouldnt be the same.another thing sora is the main character n taking him out of the game would be stupid too.him n kairis friendship is important in the game too.

I like the Kingdom Hearts Series alot and hope to see number 3 on the PS3 and hopefully the Xbox 360 since I have not gotten the PS3 yet only the 360. Something that I hope to be added to the next addition is better graphics because the story is already great just needs to be pumped up with graphics.

I think it is great that they are still working on Kingdom Hearts and I am sure they will go on & on with it just like Final Fantasy, but I think they should first release Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix + to the rest of the world I am tired of them making a game and then adding more content to it and only releasing it in Japan. I know it’s not just extra gameplay but story which I think is really important. They either need to stop releasing it this way or release KH FM + to the rest of the world.

I do not want Sora to hve a break because i think since in the games we’ve been with him and fought his battles and felt his hardships. I just think it would be wrong to use a different character don’t get mad at me for saying this but i think it will be a disgrace to have someone other than sora be the main character.

Sora’s story isn’t over yet, it will get back to it. This is the start of a new storyline entirely. I just wish Square-Enix would cut it out with the handheld deal, they are starting to sound like EA with just going after the quick buck all the time.

I think this is a complete waste of his time I’m sure I’ll eventually buy the game, I’d much rather see the kingdom hearts series continue than get started on brand new characters. I liked the fact that the game was not like final fantasy but its more and more becoming like the series…

i dont think its like that at all, it would never be anyone helping anyone if you choise Roxas, becouse it does not go with the story, we have played with Roxas before, and we allways played alone, as a solo caracter, he might get Axel beside him at some point, but apart from that, he spent most of his time alone. If anything we will fight against Riku, and meet with Xemans, its not allways about a main caracter and having 2 to help out. Riku and you have Ansem the wise fighting?? are you crasy lol? that would look so wierd.
and Sydpoe, i dont think its a waste of time, a wast of time is making 2 final mixs and not letting us play it, plus a remake of CoM thats a wast of time, this one just comples parts of the story we dont know, thats all its there for, i just want it to be good game play as well.

I realized evrything!! Everything is the same!!! Nomura said soon there will be new project so….like after first Kingdom Hearts there was Chain of Memories but secret ending wasn’t for CoM it was for KH2 so this secret ending is for KH3 but not for next game and next game (will be realesed soon ) is the similair game with Roxas and others (Pence, Olette,…) and that game will be for PSP or DS. When I played Re:CoM it is stupid because it is like first KH but more stupid same bosses and everything but there was only some part from KH2 and that is Organization XIII. So I supose soon realese game will have some parts with three knights and that stuff from Ending. So people Roxas adventure will be soon on portable consoles and KH3 will be on PS3 100%
and not so soon realese :(. I hope someone realize the same thing and agree with me!!

Ok..for the owner of this website…ask tetsuya nomura if its going to still be available for playstation 2 because it needs to be…almost everybody has a playstation 2…and if tetsuya nomura can..why doesnt he just make it for all game consoles like all the other games do? ( well most of them) i mean come on tetsuya…we love your game…dont let us down adn dissapoint us…
