Tetsuya Nomura interviewed
Firstly, sorry about the slight delay in posting this, as I have been away for the weekend. Here is an interview with Nomura discussing the minor details about the future Kingdom Hearts side-project game. As well as discussing details of the game, I believe we might have a little unofficial confirmation that there will be a Kingdom Hearts 3, which I will discuss after the interview. Here is the interview:
About the new Kingdom Hearts title that will be announced after summer this year (2007), will that be a direct sequel?
Tetsuya Nomura: “Hmm…I’m not sure how much I can say. I’ll start of by saying that it’s not Kingdom Hearts 3.”
So this game will be a side story?
Tetsuya Nomura: “That’s right. My own feelings are that I would like to give Sora a break from large adventures for a little while. So I’m thinking of making the next game’s story focus on other characters.”
So by a little while, do you mean that Sora’s journey from Kingdom Hearts 2 hasn’t finished?
Tetsuya Nomura: “Yes. If you’re talking about the mysteries that started from Kingdom Hearts 1, then those were all revealed. In the ending of Kingdom Hearts II, there was a scene where Sora received a letter from the King; for Sora, I would like you to consider this as a new beginning. The truth is, until the very end, I was considering whether or not to include a scene showing them setting off on a journey after reading the letter.”
So, let’s talk about this new story, which doesn’t have Sora as the main character. What sort of story will it be?
Tetsuya Nomura: “Well, I need to start with the story depicted in a Birth by Sleep. Aside from that, there’s the story of how the King found his keyblade in the world of darkness and other things like that. Myself, one of the things I most want to do is to give Roxas more of a role to play. I think it would be interesting to flesh out more of the year he spent between his birth and disappearance. Or making Riku the main character, and writing about his desperate fight while Sora was asleep, and things like that. You get the impression that Riku summoned Roxas to a place of shadows, and that Riku is a master of shadows, so I would like to give him more exploration in the game.”
Will there be anything different in the game system?
Tetsuya Nomura: “I’d like to try something a little different to the previous games in the KH series. I’m not just talking about the next game, more about the next project, so I can’t say that it will just be one game (laughs). For the Kingdom Hearts series, being made with our company and Disney, both companies have things in mind that we would like to make reality, so there’s always at least two things we want to do.”
What platform does it look like the next game will be released on?
Tetsuya Nomura: “Hmm… Probably a hand-held platform. Right now we’re working on titles for the PSP (FFVII Crisis Core), Nintendo DS (This Wonderful World) and for mobile phones (MONOTONE), so I wouldn’t be surprised if it were on any of those platforms.”
Is there any chance that this game may be released on multiple platforms?
Tetsuya Nomura: “We haven’t considered that in the development. If possible, I would like to make a system that suits the platform. But in contrast, in terms of ideas, I would want ideas that could be released on any platform.”
The more I hear about the next game, the more exciting it sounds, but for the fans the first thing to do is to see KH2 Final Mix’s secret movie isn’t it?
Tetsuya Nomura: “Yes. I’m worried that we made the conditions for getting the secret movie too hard, but through reading this guide, I hope the readers will be able to see the secret movie. Finding a way to defeat (the new boss) is tough, but I’ve seen it done, so I know it’s not impossible (laughs). If you’re able to see the new secret movie and turn your thoughts to the next Kingdom Hearts, I’d be very happy.”

So, perhaps not too much new information, but I think we can take Nomura’s comment that I have highlighted above where he says he would like Sora to have a break from large adventures can be taken to indicate that there will be a Kingdom Hearts III at some point in the future. He doesn’t say he wants to change the format forever, simply that Sora should have a break. I may be foolish, but I take this as a bit of a slip, and that there will more likely than ever, be a Kingdom Hearts 3.

Yah, don’t we all wish KH3 was on PS2…
But Nomura already said (in an interview) that KH2:FM was his last PS2 game.
Seriously, I was very sad when he said that.
But I still want KH2:FM, by the way.
Squenix (pronouned Sque-nix, not Squeeenix. Some people say it as Squeenix which I found was both stupid and retarded. Know your game companie’s name and learn to say them right!) said they have a special surprise for us at the end of the year.
I really hope they’re planning to sell KH2:FM to other countries.

What are you talking about? The Wii is doing the best in sales, that means the 3rd parties (Square Enix) make a lot more games for it. Why do you thing they put the original KH on the PS2 in the first place? IT SOLD THE BEST, the Xbox had better graphics but the PS2 sold the best. And just because you don’t think the Wii is fun doesn’t mean it’s not, pretty much everyone else in the world thinks it is fun.

if u played mario party 8 on wii. its alrite at first but i get tired very quickly of using the feakin remote! u cant use nuthin else. my sister brought that and took it bac a week later cuz it was so boring!and wario smooth moves was fun at first but well u can guess wat happened.(got boring)same wit raging rabbits! if i had to put the three top platforms in order it would b like this: playstation,xbox,and wii.so wat u talkin about?

oh and king mickey. wii is a funner system when u play “certain” games on it! after a while the wii remote thingy gets old and boring…u hav to consider that sony has had sum of the greatest games…so NO wii is not nessarly a “funner” system. Go playstation!!

i havent been on in a while cuz of school. but im responding to “king mickey”. graphics do matter and it would b jus plain stupid if it was on the wii.u need to think about it! and i could care less if its on ps2 or ps3 as long as it dosent end up on xbox and i can bet anything that it wont b on wii.(not talking about the sidestory) i absolutly agree wit ya “kira”.
but i cant help but hav this gut feeling that it will b 4 ps3. i dont know why…

The only thing i gotta say is it should be on PS2. im not complainin but i mean cmon,people but the PS3 for all the new Racing games and boring crap like that and on another note a PS3 is about 700$ with tax and not every1 can afford that. The previous KH games have been on PS2 (ex-cluding chain of memories) so its kinda like tradition. but i see where alot of people are coming from, its just a game you guys, you cant let it take over your life. So stop freakin, chill out, and wait to see what happens

i TOTALLY agree with kira!! i meen think about it. PS2 all the way i dont even think the wii is that great to begin with. dont u think nomura KNOWS that ppl will be mad and dissapointed if sora isnt the main adventuriest in the game? thats the point. its alllll *pointing* to nomura making something newER after KH3 (p.s., KH3 BELONGS ON PS2!!!)

ok im pretty sure the next game will be on the psp. That’s gonna be a sidestory like chain of memories and it will tell the story of different characters while hinting some plot points from kh3 which will be on the ps3

i think when they are reading the letter to whoever seen the kingdom hearts 3 trailer they think while reading the letter to the past when there family was fighting then after they read the letter they go
through different worlds to get to the last world final battle but just thinking and guessing so not even close to 100% plus why take out soar main character better be better be mad if soar takes a break

In my opinion, I think that it should be for Ps2 first. because thats how it has been for the first 2 games. I think that if its on ps3 or wii or something like that, people wont buy it as much because of this pricing. most people who have played kh and are looking forward to it, wont like if its on ps3 or wii because thats not how it started out!!. If its on wii, then it wont be as good of an experience. WHO CARES ABOUT THE DANG GRAPHCS ON A PS3??!!?? we just want to play right? ps2 is the way!!

Hey guys think if it is on handheld then you won’t see very much or the enemies will be so small you miss them then they end up killing you. Also if it is on the wii you won’t be able to have as many combos and abilities so then the game would suck. It should be on ps2 like all the rest of khs and if they want to then put it on ps3. Still put it on ps2!!!!!!

hey did anyone read Kingdom Hearts: not just a story… i did they were talking about everyone not talking about game play and that the kh3 could be multiplayer platform. and it said how would it feel to be riku with his dark magic, or a migit like mickey mouse. i think that was kind of interesting.

Graphics are not stupid and pointless.
They are veeery important.
Think about it.
For instance, KH’s graphics are so terrible, you can’t tell if that’s Sora or Goofy.
Or Halo (my friend loves that game…She even read the book.) with such horrible graphic that you can’t tell if that’s a crate or an alien.
So yes, graphics DO matter.
And I think funner is in the dictionary. XD
I never played on Wii, coz I’m a Sony fangirl.
But still, KH3 IS NOT FOR WII!!!!!
That’s dumb. Wii is for games that can be made into interactive games. I honestly don’t see how KH can be made into an interactive game.
To me, KH is the game with unique command menu, attack combos, and fun way of button smashing.
I think the main KHs (not the side stories) will always be on Sony consoles.
I think the side stories will be on Nintendo handheld stuff.
