Hmm…this is quite the heated discussion. I would give you my input, but I think I shall simply sit back and see what you guys have to say.

Oh, don’t stop with theories. Theories make for good discussion, and that’s what keeps me coming here. XDD

…
well that was a good idea, and seeing as how i’m fresh out of my own, i will just stop with the theories and wait patiently for more information.

I don’t think that the bald man is Xehanort, I think that the one in the Heartless Armor is Xehanort. (KH1!Ansem probably wears his outfit because he considers the bald guy to be some sort of mentor to him, not necessarily because they’re the same person.) The bald man, according to my theories, turned Xehanort against the others. And how could you be the Nobody of a Nobody? Nobodies don’t have hearts, and they can’t lose what they don’t have. Besides, Xehanort couldn’t have shed his heart if he didn’t have one.
Nomura said something about what happens to the mind when someone splits into a Nobody and a Heartless (they are essentially the same, but [Xehanort’s Heartless and Xemnas] have separate minds). But since standard Nobodies operate on a higher level than standard Heartless, it can be assumed that the majority of the mind remains with the Nobody. In essence, the mind fractures, and a piece goes with each (at least in the case at hand, namely Xehanort; Kairi was pretty much comatose when she lost her heart, and Sora was a simple Shadow Heartless, but maintained enough sentience to follow Kairi. And don’t forget that Sora managed to function just fine in Castle Oblivion, when Roxas was off doing whatever for Organization XIII).
As for it taking place in the future, considering how much evidence (such as Nomura’s own statements) point to it taking place in the past…but what about an alternate dimension…one where time has no meaning? THAT’D make for an interesting twist…the old man could be Xehanort from an alternate reality, taking over Xehanort from the reality that we know in the series and corrupting what is essentially himself, and sowing the seeds for his domination with himself as his own right hand man.
Crazy.
on 05 May 2007 at 12:00 am 157. Mixup
Hell… we could answer all of those questions with a single statement…
The trailers are based in the future!
on 04 May 2007 at 11:57 pm 156. Mixup
Dang… that’s some good food-for-thought…
and yes, I am certain that Xehanort was one of the chasers, but probably betrayed them… if you look at the way E.S. talks about him in this battle, it really does seem like he is a traitor… but still…
the Heartless of a Nobody…
and the Nobody of a Nobody…
if we backtrack a little to KH1, wasn’t it proven that one could not artificially make a Heart (Halloween Town)?
That kinda nulls that theory…
And here is some ideas to poke around with…
It has been confirmed that the old dude in the trailer IS Xehanort, because of the way E.S. talks…
Look at Xehanort in the trailer. He is FREAKING OLD!
How can it be in the past if Xehanort is younger in KH2 than he is in the trailer. Unless he ages backwards, or something… And you can’t say it is because Nobodies and Heartless are different ages to their human counterparts-since Sora’s Nobody (Roxas) and Xehanort’s Heartless (Ansem in KH1)were both the same ages as Sora and Xehanort/Xemnas.
Maybe… a good explanation is going back to my “Third Aspect” theory, and that is not the complete Xehanort in the trailers, but the remains of an incredibly powerful person loosing there Heart and Body to become something entirely different from a Heartless or a Nobody.
And I know that is contradicting what we already know, that Xehanort became a Heartless while working for Ansem…
I suppose you may be right, though… because E.S. actually says stuff like “you are not the one I chose” or something like that… it just looks like the E.S. fight is based in the past.
Just a little food-for-thought…
The trailer shows Xehanort kicking major ass. So…
how did he wind up arriving at Ansem’s door all beaten up and with no memory. Add that to the fact Mickey was in the trailer, but has NO memory of what when he tells you about Xehanort in KH2. Do you think that could be the results of the both of them going through Castle Oblivion at one point or another? If it is… why?
I could go on some more… but this is long enough as it is…

Heartless and Nobodies are not seeking for the soul, because Nobodies are body and soul. About the mind as the third element, it can be, because we dont know what happen to the mind of a person that have been divided into a heartless and nobody. I think Xehanort is a nobody because of the X in his name, Xehanort=Noheart + X or another + X, maybe the X was put there by Ansem the Wise, if you can see Ansem=Names.
Maybe Ansem the Wise as the leader of Radiant Garden, put the names of people who are lost or confuse.
Xehanort as a nobody seeks to have a heart, and made an artificial one, so he become whole again, but seeking more about the mysteries of the heart, he turns into a heartless and nobody. So Ansem is the heartless of Xehanort, who was a nobody, and Xemnas is the nobody of a nobody, Xehanort. Maybe the bald man in the video has the ability to divide himself in heartless and nobody as he pleases, but after the fight his nobody part loses his mind and was found by Ansem the wise. So the bald man is still there, but only as a heartless. The bald man I think is one of the four chaser, the other three are Aqua, Ven and the E.S. I dont know about this theory, but is the best I have found.

Shakespeare, in regards to the last thing you said in your post… you mention that the soul cannot be removed, right?
BUT… because we had no idea about the nobodies before KH2… there could be a very good chance that, instead of being the original Xehanort we see in the trailers… it could be a whole new one… we know the soul is what all Heartless and Nobodies lack, and that cannot be removed without death, we never covered the Mind. think about it… that balled dude in the trailers might not actually be the original, living Xehanort, in fact, it could be the remains of the Third aspect of a person… the last boss in KH1 was Xehanort’s Heartless, and the last boss in KH2 was his Nobody… the balled guy could be the result of a person’s Mind being released from his Body when he looses his Heart.

Quite true, Xehanort should be alive now, and would be either in the Realm of Darkness like at the end of KH2, or in the room where you fought Xemnas. I think that a cyclical birth and rebirth for Xehanort would be an interesting element to the game. It would show that balance must be maintained between Light and Darkness, in that Xehanort cannot ever be completely vanquished. Nomura hasn’t said anything about the state of the person’s memory once their heart and body have been reunited, but Kairi and Sora both seemed OK.
(Interesting to note, however, is that Roxas remembered nothing of before, and lost his memory after being placed in the Digital Twilight Town. He, however, was able to regain his memories, as well…was it because of Naminé? Could she have been able to put Xemnas’ memory back together? Since Roxas had the ability to wield a Keyblade just as Sora could, does that imply that Kairi could have a similar power to Naminé that she simply hasn’t realized yet? So many questions…)
The only fictional thing that comes to mind where people have lost their memories is in Harry Potter with the use of Memory Charms. However, even if your memory has been modified, it is possible to break the memory charm. That was the purpose of the original experimentation on Xehanort; to find a way to retrieve his memory. (It wasn’t truly LOST, it just couldn’t be found.) Then, after becoming a Heartless had failed to produce the answers he was looking for, ‘Ansem’ (now Xemnas) constructed Castle Oblivion for ongoing research into memory through the use of Naminé’s power. There’s no telling how much could have been learned in Castle Oblivion and passed on to the Superior…perhaps Xehanort could have found some clue that will help him retrieve what he has lost?
With the specific use of ‘Shinen’ in the Japanese name for the E.S., it leads you to wonder, is he similar to Sephiroth’s Shinentai (Shinentai = ‘Body of thought’) in Advent Children? Or possibly like the Fayth of FFX? (Birth by Sleep; the Aeons of FFX were created by the dreams of the Fayth.) In that case, it would mean that the Chasers were dead, but somehow managing to carry on. (It could also explain why the E.S. is so tough; if he doesn’t have an actual body to damage or restrict him, then defeating him would be quite difficult.)

Good call, Shakes. You got me on that one. So Xemnas/Xehanort should still be alive after the conclusion of KH2, correct? The heart and body recombined, but then what? Would he appear, but with amnesia again? With no recollection of anything? If so, that would parallel his debut appearence when Ansem the Wise took him in, which could lead anyone to believe that Xehanort’s death and rebirth is cyclic. Also, the events in Sunset Horizons and Fate of the Unknown could all be memories that Xemnas recollected in the Room of Sleep. Proof of this can be found in the set of Chaser armour Xemnas comments on when he seats himself in said room. What happened to Aqua, and the other two Chasers, had to have happened before present day, otherwise Xemnas wouldn’t have that armour. And the fact that the Enigmatic Soldier, (AKA Tomari shi Shinen”/”Remaining Thought”) has such resentment for Xehanort could be substantiated by the fact that Xehanort turned traitor. Unfortunately, this equals nothing but speculation and gossip.

Regarding Trace’s comment on Xehanort’s name:
One of my favorite theories regarding Xehanort’s name came from a fanfic that I read. When Ansem the Wise found Xehanort and took him in, the young man had forgotten everything. Ansem asked him where he was from, how he had gotten in such a state, and always got the reply ‘I don’t remember’. When he finally asked ‘Do you at least remember your name?’ and was met with another ‘I don’t remember’, he declared that his name was “Just another X to be filled in”. Rearrange ‘Xehanort’, and you get ‘Another X’, (’another unknown’, just like in Algebra). Someone else on here pointed out that ‘Ansem’ rearranges to ‘Names’, something that seems to change a lot whenever Xehanort is involved.
But not all Nobodies have names with Xs in them, only members of Organization XIII. That is the ‘mark’ that shows that they are part of a brotherhood. Naminé’s name doesn’t have an X in it, even though she was a Nobody. (Granted, she was highly unusual, but so was Roxas, and he has an Organization name.) And besides, names like ‘Axel’ are real names that just happen to have an ‘X’ in them; being a Nobody doesn’t mean you have an X in your name, and having an X in your name doesn’t mean you’re a Nobody.
I’d go on, but it’s 11:43, and I’m really tired…and this post is gonna be long enough as it is, so I’ll just leave these last thoughts as theories (and if you want the thought behind them, just ask). There is a possibility of losing your heart multiple times and becoming whole multiple times, as long as your Heartless is destroyed before your Nobody. (Another Report says that, if that order is followed, the Heart and the Body will recombine into a whole being; in short, this means that Xehanort is alive again.)
And regarding Mind and Soul (along with Body and Heart), Secret Ansem Report #4 makes mention of separating the soul from the heart and body resulting in death, but removal of the heart does not. This is probably a tie-in to the Gaia Theory, which crops up in a lot of Squeenix games (FFVII most notably; Sephiroth and Shinra were both taking advantage of the Planet’s soul for their own ends, and on several occasions throughout the game you could hear the Planet scream in agony as its soul was sucked out by Shinra’s Mako reactors).
